Procedures and Expectations for Concert Band Rehearsals
Band is disciplined fun! That's the best way to describe a perfect band rehearsal! As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words!" So the pictures on this webpage are saying 2,000 words!
Beginning in September 2015, most rehearsals will be held on Monday and Friday mornings from 7:50 AM to 8:20 AM in what is known as the middle school building. That's right ... before first period! We polled each family in the band and it was a unanimous decision to hold rehearsals at this time rather than after school. This new time eliminates conflicts with sports and other school activities and rehearsals as well. The only thing keeping a student from being on time for a rehearsal will a late arrival of a bus.
We will rehearse in what was the old middle school computer lab. It is a room that will be shared by the band and Mrs. Turner's classes. By rehearsing in this building, it eliminates the need for someone to transport instruments and equipment between the Music Conservatory Office and the High School Music Room.
Stay tuned for the new procedures we will use to get everyone ready for rehearsal and first period class!
Good discipline is the key to a great rehearsal. A disciplined group does not mean we cannot have fun or laugh. Discipline is doing the right thing at the right time. Discipline is getting your seat in place before rehearsal and putting it away after each rehearsal. Discipline is paying attention to the fast paced rehearsal style usually used by Mr. Rappoldt. Discipline is staying focused on a single goal. Discipline is knowing that it is time to relax and talk to you neighbor between the musical selections being rehearsed. Discipline is helping each other all the time. Discipline is thinking of everyone else before yourself. The apostle Paul gave us some insight into these things when he wrote, "... whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things." (Phil. 4:8)
At each rehearsal, band members need to bring the following items:
1. instrument
2. all music being rehearsed for an upcoming concert
3. Accent on Achievement Books 1 and 2
4. Warm-ups and Beyond (book)
5. sharpened pencil with eraser
6. accessories (reeds, oil, drum sticks, mutes, etc.)
