The Conestoga Christian School Concert Band
(or "Bandchestra")
"Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre,
Praise Him with the strings and pipe, praise Him with the clash of cymbals,
praise Him with resounding cymbals."
-- Psalm 150:3 - 5
Bands have been around since the time of King David and King Solomon in the 10th century BC. Continuing in that tradition of praising the Lord through the gift of music, the CCS Concert Band is now in its sixth exciting year. The group is already known for its mature sound and excellent performances. In June 2015, the group participated in its first concert band competition. At this event, the CCS Concert Band placed first among all the high school bands who were present at the "Music in the Parks Festival" that was held in Hershey, PA. In 2016, the CCS Concert Band joined forces with the Concert Band from Berks Christian School and competed in the same event. Once again, the band received and excellent rating and placed first in the high school band division even though most of the group is of middle school age.
Our current group is actually a "bandchestra" or a band with a number of string instruments added to the ensemble. The current CCS Concert Band consists of students who are beginning at least their second year of playing an instrument, consequently, Concert Band members are currently in grades 6-12. However, if a beginning student progresses quickly on an instrument, he/she may be added to group as soon as possible. The younger instrumentalists in the group are encouraged by their older peers and as a result, these inexperience players usually progress much quicker than is the norm. This unique blend of Christian students has contributed to success of the group.
Typically, the full band performs five or six times each school year. The pictures in the slide show seen below were taken at one of our concerts last school year.
