FROZEN tops the list for 2014 Concert Band Music
It's been a concert filled spring! The TCS Fine Arts Festival was held on April 1 and three days later, the Grandparents Day Concert was held. Now the band is preparing music from FROZEN for the "Evening of Science and Art" on Thursday, May 22.
Concert literature that the band is in the process of preparing for the Spring Concert on May 22 is as follows:
Amazing Grace arranged by Lawrence Rappoldt
Appalachian Suite by Paul Murtha
1. Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair
2. Sourwood Mountain
3. Simple Gifts
Gap Creek by James Bocook
Highlights from FROZEN arranged by Johnnie Vinson
1. Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
2. For the First Time in Forever
3. Let It Go!
4. Epilogue (combination of the previous three songs)
Several arrangements of Amazing Grace are on Smart Music, but not the one arranged by Mr. Rappoldt.
Appalachian Suite may be found on and practiced with Smart Music.
Gap Creek is also on Smart Music, but the music we are playing is not exactly what is seen on Smart Music since we are using a "Flex Band" arrangement of this composition. Oddly enough, the recording is in a different key than the arrangement we are using at CCS. So this recording should be for listening purposes only.
FROZEN is simply too new to be on Smart Music. The CCS Band is actually one of the first bands in the USA to obtain this wonderful arrangement of hit tunes from this Disney movie. A recording of it is online, however.
Students are encouraged to listen to recordings of these pieces to help assist them in learning their music and in achieving a proper blend. Click on the "bottom text" icon to hear an Internet recording of the music. If Smart Music is not available, students are also encouraged to play along with the Internet recordings once they have practiced their music at least several times prior to the first play-a-long attempt.
